Finished

After the playsuit was stitched, hemmed and fitted we finished off the outfit by making straps out of a pearl necklace and left it draping down the back. I felt this gave a nice effect and just added a little extra something to the outfit ready for the catwalk.

The playsuit will be accessorised with ribbon bracelets, a belt and floral hair accessories.

A change of plan

We were originally supposed to create an outfit for menswear but the fabrics that were left over weren't really working, especially the fact that its all floral, so we changed our idea to another outfit for womens wear.
We started off with a quilted jacket, we cut the sleeves shorter and cut some of the bottom off to create a dress. The shapes of the flowers were cut along the hem of the bottom of the dress and the sleeves to give a more interesting shape and a more girly look.

We fitted and pinned the front and back of the dress to give more shape and pinned the neckline to make it look more feminine. We also accessorised it with a thin brown belt.

The playsuit

While this was all going on we still had another outfit to make so we got started on making a playsuit out of a dress.
We put the dress on back to front so the playsuit is going to end up backless.

We've unpicked the stitching and pulled the sleeves off, pinned the shape of the front and back in place and fitted the playsuit so its not too big and baggy. We've decidied to make some straps out of some ribbon or pearls to give it a cutsie and more girly look to go with the garden party trend.

This outfit is also still being finished.
The bottom of the dress it going to be cut to size and stitched to make the shorts of the playsuit.

So we started again....

We managed to get a hold of some extra fabric to we've started using that to make a dress. The dress is going to be one shouldered and the fabric is very easy and light so all it took was some gathering and pinning to give it structure and texture.

The dress is currently being worked on and finished.

Get rid of it!

In the end we asked our lecturers for some advice and decided to just get rid of the skirt completely and just stick with the curtain and make a dress.

We wanted to keep the asymmetric front and the back of the dress the same so we tried adding ruffles, pleats and gathers but we couldnt add much shape because the fabric was stiff and heavy so yet again we scrapped that idea. So we were back to square one.

Stress!

So first things first we decided to use the floral skirt with the curtains.
Before deciding how to change the skirt we practically just shoved the curtain round the mannequin and it turned out really well, we liked the asymmetric front with the fold at the top which gave structure and we thought the back looked really nice aswell. So that was easy.

But typically the problem started when it came to THAT skirt. First we thought of making it shorter and giving it volume to create an a-line shape but decided against that. So we tried pleats we tried gathering it, folding and pinning but NOTHING was working, it just didn't look right. Cinderella is a word that springs to mind.
